One of the first things that you will notice when you enter at Miksalište is a group of people, gathered around their mobile phones, cheering for Afghanistan cricket king, Rashid Khan. Although he’s just 19 years old, he never backs down being a sport success.

Noor is our volunteer from Afghanistan, whose favourite cricket player is as well Rashid Khan. „He is a bowler“, says Noor, explaining the basic rules of this sport. „The game is played between two teams, usually of eleven players each. In the same time there are eleven players of the so-called “fielding” team and two batsmen from the opposite team. These two batsmen stand on the opposite ends of the pitch – the central rectangular part of the field. A wicket, usually made of wood, is placed at each end of the pitch and used as a target.“1

Noor has recently started to play for Serbian Cricket Federation. This sports club is a small, pleasant multicultural community, where locals play in a team with several refugees, as well including people from all around the world. They successfully contribute to social integration and inclusion programs, in a collaboration with the state, but also with the NGO sector.

In one of the sports halls in Belgrade, Noor trains with his club on a regular basis. He started to play cricket when he was in the 8th grade, and in the 12th grade he was playing in a school team. Now, he plays in one of the seven cricket clubs in Serbia. He hopes that NURone day, he will be ready for the Serbian national team.

Thanks to Noor and his friends, Miksalište is an unique hub, where everybody are trying to find themselves in a convenient sport, art, language, craft or in any other aspect of human activity. Everyday he helps us with translation and with development of creative ideas. On Sunday, the 30th of April, we supported him and other friends on their first cricket match in Serbia, where they played for Mirijevo team.
